Enterprise Direct
Have you ever:
- Had a brilliant idea for a new product or service?
- Thought of a way to improve on an existing product or service?
If so, you could be the type of person we’re looking for. Manchester College of Arts and Technology (MANCAT) and Manchester Science Enterprise Centre (MSEC) have combined their expertise to develop a new programme designed to give enterprising individuals the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to start-up and grow a new business.
The Enterprise Direct (ED) programme will provide a safe, supported environment in which you can:
- Test a business idea with a view to setting up a business or selling the idea for exploitation by others.
- Enhance your job prospects and income by training you in the art of enterprise and innovation.
- The ED programme will train you in the various aspects of idea development and enterprise from business planning and
- marketing all the way through to prototype development, testing and fund raising.
The type of person we are looking for will have:
- Formulated an innovative idea with a unique selling point and potential for growth as a business and begun to actively think as to how best they can further develop their idea
- some industrial/commercial experience relevant to their proposal
- GCSE (Grade C or above):- English and Mathematics or equivalent
- basic IT skills
Support for you
You will be supported on the course from the outset by a personal enterprise tutor. Should you wish to take your project forward beyond the programme, you will be assigned a business mentor who will assist you in taking your idea into the market in the form of a company or by licence/sales agreement.
Timetable and duration
The programme starts October 2006 and will comprise two taught units of 12 weeks each during which time you will be expected to attend lectures and workshops for three hours per week during the evening. This will be followed by up to 24 weeks of tutor/mentor support during which time you will work to implement your plan to develop and launch your venture.
Location
The programme will be delivered at MANCAT’s new premises in One Central Park, North East Manchester. Candidates will also have use of MSEC’s impressive business creation unit, Venture Space, where you will have access to the key resources needed to start-up a business. Visit www.onecentralpark.co.uk
